Diamond Exploration Laboratories

The MSA Group boasts the only independent ISO/IEC 17025 (SANAS) accredited laboratory for the exploration and evaluation of diamond deposits. This is the only laboratory of its kind in Africa.

Our laboratory facilities include:

Heavy Mineral Analysis Laboratory

  • Concentration and sorting of indicator minerals
  • Provenance and surface texture analysis
  • Major and trace element chemistry analysis on indicator minerals

Micro-Diamond Laboratory

  • Micro-diamond extraction from kimberlite using caustic fusion
  • Micro-diamond sorting and diamond description
  • Micro-diamond data statistical analysis for grade predictions
  • On and off site macro-diamond sorting

Petrographic Analysis of kimberlites and related rocks

  • Diamond potential
  • Geological modelling
  • Metallurgical studies

A Laboratory Quality Management System is in place and both the Heavy Mineral Analysis and Microdiamond Methods are SANAS accredited with the global ISO/IEC 17025 certification to provide assurance to our clients and their investors that our laboratory test results and diamond weighing calibrations are consistently accurate.
