Job Overview:
We are seeking a Mineral Resource Geologist to join our dynamic consulting team in Johannesburg. The successful candidate will provide support in the estimation and evaluation of mineral resources, geological modelling, and data analysis for various mining and exploration projects. This role is an excellent opportunity for an early-career geologist to develop skills in resource estimation and gain hands-on experience within a consulting environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Geological Data Analysis: Assist in the collection, analysis, and interpretation of geological data, including drilling, sampling, mapping and geophysical data.
Mineral Resource Estimation Support: Support senior consultants in the estimation of mineral resources, ensuring compliance with relevant industry standards (SAMREC, JORC, NI 43-101 etc).
Geological Modelling: Assist with the creation and updating of 3D geological models using industry-standard software (e.g., Datamine, Leapfrog, Micromine) under the guidance of senior consultants.
Technical Report Preparation: Contribute to the preparation of technical reports, resource statements, and presentations, ensuring accurate and clear documentation.
Fieldwork & Site Visits: Participate in fieldwork, including site visits, where necessary, to support resource evaluation projects.
Data Quality Control: Ensure that all geological and resource data are accurate, consistent, and comply with quality control and quality assurance (QA/QC) procedures.
Collaboration: Work closely with senior geologists and consultants, mining engineers, and other team members to support project work and contribute to problem-solving and decision-making.
Learning & Development: Participate in internal training and development programs to build expertise in mineral resource estimation and geological consulting practices.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
Education: A Bachelor’s degree with honours in Geology or a related field. A Master’s degree is advantageous.
Experience: At least 3 years of experience in the mining, exploration, or consulting industry.
Some experience in database management, geological modelling and Mineral Resource estimation would be beneficial.
Software Skills:
Familiarity with geological database software and geological modelling packages such as Datamine, Leapfrog, Micromine, Surpac, or equivalent.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Technical Knowledge:
Understanding of basic geological principles and mineral resource estimation methods.
Familiarity with mining exploration and geological data interpretation.
Analytical Skills: Ability to analyse and interpret geological data and assist in resource modelling.
Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy and quality.
Communication Skills: Good written and verbal communication skills. Ability to present technical information clearly and effectively.
Team Player: Ability to work well in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment.
Adaptability: Willingness to learn and grow within the field of mineral resource geology and consulting.
Desirable Skills:
Field Experience: Experience in geological fieldwork and/or mine geology, including geological mapping, drilling, and sample collection.
Knowledge of Reporting Standards: Basic understanding of reporting standards such as SAMREC, JORC, and NI 43-101.
