Purpose of the Job:

The MSA Group is looking for an experienced Senior Mineral Resource Consultant to join their existing Mineral Resources team. The individual will be responsible for Mineral Resource estimation and modeling as well as reviewing, analysing and preparing Mineral Resource statements that comply with the requirements of the major stock exchanges and international reporting codes. The individual will possess good report writing and presentation skills as well as in-depth consulting knowledge and skills.

The successful incumbent will ultimately be responsible for the effective provision of critical technical advice on Mineral Resource modelling, numerical geostatistical estimation processes, standards to minimize mining & project risk and processes to optimise management of the Mineral Resource. Ultimately the incumbent should be able to add value to our client’s projects by providing practical and pragmatic technical advice relating to developing the Mineral Resource.

In a Senior role, the incumbent will be expected to deliver consistently high-quality work with minimal supervision. The incumbent will be supported by other members of the MSA Group Mineral Resource team in Johannesburg and from other offices in the group as and when required.

Minimum Requirements:

Qualifications:

BSc (Hons) in Geology.

Post Graduate Geological/Mining Qualification.

Registration with SACNASP as Pr. Sci. Nat., or the ability to do so.

Experience: Minimum 10 years industry experience in Mineral Resource estimation and Public Reporting in variety of commodities, preferably including base metals and/or orogenic gold deposits, although experience in other environments will be considered.

Experience in Mineral Resource Management at an operational level and/or consulting and practical experience in a brownfields exploration / projects / production environment.

Technical Skills:

  • Expertise in geological modelling software, preferably Datamine and Leaprog Geo. Ability to use other software such as Micromine, Surpac, Vulcan, etc is advantageous.
  • Able to carry out Mineral Resource Estimation, following industry acceptable processes, with minimal supervision.
  • Able to develop and manage audits and reviews.
  • Able to provide advice on MRM processes aimed at optimally extracting the Mineral Resource.
  • Excellent report writing and presentation skills.
  • Able to sign-off as a Competent / Qualified Person for Mineral Resources in several commodities/mineralisation styles.
  • Valid driver’s License.
  • The applicant may be required to travel to remote locations outside of Johannesburg from time to time for periods of normally less than two weeks.
