Job Title: Accountant Department: Finance

Job Introduction:
The accountant is responsible for ensuring the administration and operational activities in the field of Finance. This includes payroll, debtors, creditors, tax administration and project management administration.
Job Responsibilities:
TECHNICAL TASKS

Payroll:

  • Responsible for the payroll administration of all permanent staff and contractors.
  • Administer employee benefits, such as health insurance, retirement plans, and other perks.
  • Collaborate with human resources department to ensure seamless integration between payroll and HR systems.
  • Regularly review payroll processes to ensure efficiency and accuracy.

Financial Accounting:

  • Record and classify financial transactions ensuring all entries are accurate and complete.
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts to ensure consistency and accuracy in financial records.
  • Assist in the preparation for internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation, explanations, and reconciliations.
  • Calculate and prepare tax returns annually.
  • Accurately accounting for VAT transactions, compilation of monthly VAT201 returns, timeous submission to SARS.
  • Generate reports on fixed asset values, depreciation, and related financial metrics.
  • Compilation of monthly management packs, as required by relevant stakeholders.

Project Management:

  • Identify and engage with project stakeholders to get insight into current or future projects.
  • Compile and distribute project documentation at the close of the project.
  • Seek feedback from stakeholders and adjust project activities accordingly.
  • Close out contracts, release project resources, and communicate project closure.

TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT OF STAFF

  • Conduct induction sessions to equip the new employee with the payroll system including the administration of timesheets, invoices, and finance-related SOP’s.

OTHER TASKS

  • Stay updated on changes in tax laws and regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting policies and procedures.
Job Requirements:
Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Commerce degree in Accounting or Finance.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years working experience in a finance or accounting related role.
  • Sound knowledge of South African Accounting and Taxation practices and principles.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel (Advanced).
  • Exposure to cross border transactions.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to financial challenges.
