Job Introduction:
At The MSA Group our success is directly related to the strength of our management team and we are looking for a leader for our technical consultancy based in Kazakhstan (MSA Minerals Consulting; MSA-MC)
The successful incumbent will be responsible for running day-to-day operations of the company and should have experience in overseeing business operations as well as human resources, finance, and communications. The General Manager must have good technical knowledge gained by working in the mineral exploration or mining industry and will be required to provide technical consulting services to MSA-MC’s clients. The role is based in Astana, with occasional travel domestically and in the region.
Job Responsibilities:
- Manage the consulting company to ensure it continues to provide world class technical consulting services to mining clients in the Central Asia region.
- Review technical outputs to ensure adherence with scope.
- Proposal writing, client liaison and scoping of projects to tailor approach for client’s requirements.
- Manage projects to ensure adherence to scope, timelines and invoicing.
- Provide occasional technical consulting as and when required.
- Ensure that projects are in accordance with KAZRC/JORC/NI 43-101/other reporting code standards, quality control systems and checks to ensure total compliance of all MSA-MC work to international best practice.
- Manage the budget and monitor the financial health of the company.
- Reporting to the board of directors on financial performance, key project deliverables and related matters.
- Ensure business development as well as generating new leads and opportunities by converting them into projects/revenue.
- Deliver business development presentations and attend industry events and conferences where possible.
- Create and implement strategies for business growth together with MSA-MC Board.
- Oversee the hiring of new staff, identifying key talent as well as the retention of staff.
- Develop key performance goals and manage the performance of staff.
- Improve the internal processes for better productivity within the business.
Qualifications:
- Relevant Post-Graduate Qualification in Geology or Mining Engineering (4 years or equivalent qualification).
- 15+ years, plus experience in the mining industry including at least 5 years consulting experience in a mining/exploration consultancy.
- Excellent management knowledge and skills and up to date familiarity with technical and other trends within the industry.
- Professional registration e,g. PONEN/AUSIMM//SACNASP etc.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Very strong communication and delegation skills.
- A desire to build and lead a team of professionals and to lead the business to achieve maximum efficiencies and profitability.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to establish strong relationships with staff, clients, and other industry players.
- Strong existing industry networks in the Central Asian market would be beneficial.
- Excellent report and proposal writing skills.
- Strong speaking, presentation and negotiating skills.
- Good organisational and time management skills.
- A working knowledge of pertinent legislation and practice.
- Strong business development and marketing skills.
- A working understanding of finance; accounting, cash flow, interest rates, economic cycles, costing, etc.
- Previous project management experience.
- A desire and ability to mentor staff.
- Working experience with relevant software
